Victims Drove to PD with Assailant Following

Police locate and arrest a Salina man for an alleged assault that happened last October.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that 32-year-old Charles Bates, Jr. is being charged with aggravated assault and damage to property after an argument between acquaintances turned violent at about 1am on October 17, 2014.

Police say Bates threatened two women in a car at The Muse, 1700 Beverly Dr., and broke a window in the 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis they were in plus a cell phone.

Later that morning he used a brick and hit the vehicle repeatedly causing $1,500 damage to the exterior and a hole in the windshield while it was parked at 5th and Woodland.

The women then drove to the Salina Police Station while he followed.

Police say Bates then proceeded to the 1400 block of E. Iron where he smashed the windshield of a vehicle owned by one of the victim’s mother.

Bates is now facing multiple charges for felony assault and property damage.
