A new program aims to deliver tips to new parents over their cell phones.

The Kansas Early Childhood Advisory Council and Kansas Project LAUNCH have awarded $40,000 in mini grants to communities across the state. The money will help promote a texting campaign designed to provide parents with easy access to health information.

Project coordinator Cristi Cain told 6News Lawrence that the program’s key demographic is low¬† income mothers, who are active texters and are more likely to be reached that way.

Expecting mothers or new moms can sign up for the free service by texting “baby” to 511411 or “bebe” in Spanish. The messages will offer information aimed at the baby’s development up to the child’s first birthday.

Fifty four Kansas counties are receiving funding to promote the effort.

Really more wasteful spending of taxpayer dollars. Then to add insult to injury offering it in spanish!!! This is America which speaks English. If you refuse to learn English then go back to the country you came from. What I find funny is the statement “the key demographic is low income mothers, who are active texters.” The reason they are low income is they rather sit on their butts and text all day than work. Plus continue to have babies by any guy that comes along who then hit the road and are not responsible for the kid they made. SORRY but don’t waste my tax money on these people.

AAA, we can speak any languages we want. This is America, the land of freedom. FYI, Spanish speaking people was already in America a hundred years before the Thirteen Colonies and Native American tribes who speaks many different languages was already here for thousands of years.

Bronson you can live in the past all you wish. My family as well of other families who migrated here from other countries had to learn the language before they could become citizens. You did not see english and Italian or english and german, french, polish ect. The government or free enterprise used one language that being english. I for one am tired that spanish is being put up everywhere and even when you call a company or the government they give instructions in spanish. This is America as AAA mentioned and I did not fight in the war for our language to include spanish and its time to get rid of it.
