Teen Driver, Horse Killed in Crash

A teen driver, and a horse, were killed in a multi vehicle crash Saturday night in McPherson County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a Dodge Ram pickup truck pulling a horse trailer was traveling west on Comanche Road. It stopped at the stop sign at K61 Highway, then attempted to proceed across the highway after noting that oncoming vehicles were far enough off.

A Chevrolet S 10 pickup truck was headed north on the highway, and struck the center of the horse trailer.

The Dodge Ram and horse trailer continued across the highway and stopped in the median crossover. The Chevrolet came to rest across both northbound lanes of K61. A third vehicle, a Freightliner semi pulling a trailer, then hit the disabled Chevrolet.

The driver of the Chevrolet was killed. He is 19-year-old Tyler Karraker from Little River, Kansas. A horse in the trailer that was hit was killed as well.

The driver of the Dodge Ram pulling the horse trailer was not hurt. She is 43-year-old Tally Klitze from Windom, Kansas. The driver of the semi also was not hurt. He is 22-year-old Colton Dyche from Coats, Kansas. A passenger in the semi was also not hurt.

The patrol says that everyone involved was buckled up.

The crash happened at 8:48 Saturday night on K 61 Highway, about 4 miles North of Inman.
