UPDATE: Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Hurt

A shooting in north Salina late Friday afternoon left 1 person dead, and 2 others in the hospital.

The shooting happened in the 1100 Block of North 10th Street. Salina Police Captain Chris Trocheck told KSAL News at the scene that officers were called at around 4:00 to the report of a domestic incident involving a man and a woman.

According to Trocheck, shots were fired during the incident, outside a home.

As the incident was happening, a citizen in the neighborhood heard it and responded to help. The citizen, and the woman, were both shot. Both were down in the street when officers arrived on the scene. Both were transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center. They were in surgery Friday evening.

The man involved in the domestic dispute, a 40-year-old male, was deceased in the driveway when officers arrived. Police could not immediately confirm, but said that the they believed the man might possibly be the woman’s estranged husband and that he was the shooter.

Names were not yet being released Friday evening.

A large portion of the 1100 Block of North 10th Street was blocked off as police worked the scene.

Police did not release a lot of details initially at the scene. Captain Chris Trocheck confirmed to the media that be person was deceased at the scene, while two others had been transported to Salina Regional Health Center.

Salina Police Chief Brad Nelson said that they believe the deceased person is the shooter.

A large portion of the 1100 Block of North 10th Street is blocked off as police work the scene.
