Salina Police Captain Chris Trocheck and a crime scene investigator view the body Friday evening.

A shooting in north Salina late Friday afternoon left 1 person dead, and 2 others in the hospital.

The shooting happened in the 1100 Block of North 10th Street. Salina Police Captain Chris Trocheck told KSAL News at the scene that officers were called at around 4:00 to the report of a domestic incident involving a man and a woman.

According to Trocheck, shots were fired during the incident, outside a home.

As the incident was happening, a citizen in the neighborhood heard it and responded to help. The citizen, and the woman, were both shot. Both were down in the street when officers arrived on the scene. Both were transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center. They were in surgery Friday evening.

The man involved in the domestic dispute, a 40-year-old male, was deceased in the driveway when officers arrived. Police could not immediately confirm, but said that the they believed the man might possibly be the woman’s estranged husband and that he was the shooter.

Names were not yet being released Friday evening.

A large portion of the 1100 Block of North 10th Street was blocked off as police worked the scene.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2013 firearms (excluding BB and pellet guns) caused 84,258 nonfatal injuries (26.65 per 100,000 U.S. citizens) and 33,636 deaths (10.6 per 100,000).

There are 319 million people in the U.S., which means about 1 out of every 2,705 people in the U.S. was shot by a firearm in 2013; about 1 out of every 9,484 people in the U.S. was killed by a firearm in 2013.

Extrapolating over a typical lifetime of 74 years and assuming the above trends continue, 1 out of 36 people currently alive in the U.S. will be shot by a firearm during their lifetime; 1 out of every 128 people in the U.S. will be killed by a firearm during their lifetime, most well before they reach 74 years of age (about 1 out 192 will commit suicide with a gun, while 1 out of 384 will be shot to death by somebody else with a gun).

Thanks, Bob. It’s information like this that makes me glad I have a gun to defend myself from the felons that can get an untraceable gun off of the black market.

This is a very sad situation. Prayers for the families affected by this tragedy. But once again guns don’t kill people! People kill people! People hurt people! The gun is just the weapon, just as a knife, bat or any other object used to hurt or kill someone. It’s the idiot holding the weapon (a gun in this instance) who is to blame…not the weapon it self. While I don’t personally have a gun nor will I ever, I get so tired of people blaming the guns and not the person holding the gun.
End rant.

Ok why no names? Once again Salina police playing games and telling half the story of what has occurred. As to the guy with stats many of us innocent people whom are victims of crime are arming themselves and the death rate of thugs will soon be escalating.

there you go. Said it before and I will say it again. The court system in salina babies these people that steal guns, unlawfully discharge them, and do a lot of damage with their vehicle while they are at it. Add court services to that list. Especialy if you are a fe
felon a drunk and a drug abuser, they really lighten it up on you then. oh forgot driving while suspended and no insurance. AND already on corrections. go f-in figure. These criminals are what keeps them all drawing a pay check. they love em
