Sheriff Seeks Concealed Carry Law Exemption

Associated Press - November 27, 2013 10:50 am

Saline County Sheriff Glen Kochanowski says he will seek a four-year exemption from a state law allowing concealed carry permit holders to bring guns into the law enforcement center, even if county officials don’t agree.

Kochanowski told county commissioners Tuesday that his office often deals with people who have anger issues when they come into the law enforcement center, so it’s not wise to let them carry guns inside.

Saline County Commission chairman Randy Duncan disagreed, saying not everyone who gets mad is going to shoot someone.

The Kansas Legislature passed a law last session requiring governmental entities to allow permit holders to carry their concealed guns in a building unless it is protected with metal detectors and guards.

I’ll say it again….(and again and again) Restrictions, regulations and laws designed to keep guns out of places or out of the hands of people is only going to keep them out of the hands of the law abiding citizens who respect our laws. Do you think a criminal who has obtained a gun illegally is going to give a crap about a sign saying “No Guns Allowed”???

The sheriff does not touch the subject that you bring up which we all know is true about criminals and guns. I read the full story in the journal and the sheriff is livid because he no longer can bully the county commissioners. Our old sheriff has always been a bully from the day he started on the police force to now. In the journal he says he has the safety in mind about the innocent people. WELL SHERIFF IF THAT IS TRUE WHY THE HELL DON’T YOU PATROL THE COUNTY ANYMORE? You rather place your patrols on the sides of roads to catch speeders than to make a presence in the county. The best thing he can do is resign his position and retire and get out of the office downtown so someone capable can take over and I do not mean his son who is as bad as his father. I want someone in that office whose main concern is protecting us people they were elected to protect.

It is time for a viable candidates to stand up and take these jobs away from anti-Constitutional sheriffs in all states. The sheriff is the ultimate Law Enforcement officer in his county and it is HIS responsibility to protect the people, NOT his officers or anyone else. For a county sheriff to deny citizens the right to defend themselves is beyond unConstitutional, it is IMMORAL.

Laws do not apply to our sheriff he has ignored them all his life in every law enforcement job he has held. I to find it interesting at his frustration with the county commissioners. In the past he has had them in his back pocket and has done as he pleased. Now that is not happening and the old geezer can’t handle it. We need to carry guns after all he cannot keep a murderer from escaping his jail.
