Salina Man Killed in I 70 Accident

A Salina man was killed in an accident on Interstate 70 Saturday night while he was on foot outside of his disabled SUV.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol,  a 1993 Jeep SUV was unoccupied and disabled in the right lane. The owner of the Jeep, identified as 61-year-old Kelly J. Turner of Salina, was outside of the vehicle. A 2012 Volvo passenger car, attempting to avoid another accident that was in the left hand lane, struck the Jeep from behind.

Turner was outside of the vehicle when it was struck, and was killed.

Two people in the Volvo were hurt. 61-year-old  Jose Torres-Rodriguez and 59-year-old Victoria Torres, both from Junction City, were transported to the hospital in Salina.

The crash happened at 7:49 Saturday night on I 70 in Saline County, about three miles west of Solomon.
