Salina Downtown Power Outage

A power outage at a downtown power station had a large portion of downtown Salina in the dark Wednesday morning.

Power went out for about 1,600 Westar Energy customers at around 9:25. Westar Energy tells KSAL News that an issue with a power station on Front Street and Iron Avenue caused the outage.

Westar says that the issue was caused by a squirrel that blew a transformer.

Power was off for nearly an hour, before being restored at about 10:20.
