PHOTO GALLERY: Salina Discovered, Naturally

A chilly, wet day did not dampen the enthusiasm at a gathering in Lakewood Park to “Discover Salina, Naturally.”

The unique Salina event was a celebration of the natural side of Salina, and positive environmental impacts that are being made in the community.

There were nearly 60 booths and exhibits at Discover Salina, Naturally. Mixed in with the environmental message of ways to make a positive impact there were activities, live animals, historical characters from Salina’s past, food, and entertainment. There was everything from a historic mountain man encampment to live caterpillars that will one day transform into beautiful Monarch butterflies.

Along with the booths and exhibits, there were plenty of activities, including guided bird watching nature hikes.

There was a wide range of food, everything from food truck fare, barbecue, and even vegan offerings.

Discover Salina, Naturally has three goals:

  • Introduce young families to local history.
  • Introduce children to nature.
  • Educates the community about a responsible and sustainable future.

Discover Salina, Naturally is the single largest activity that takes place at Lakewood Park.
