Salina Crime Stoppers 8-5-16

On August 4, 2016 at approximately 2:13AM, Saline County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 10500 block of S. Gypsum Valley Road in rural Saline County for a barn and hay bales on fire.

A total of 729 alfalfa bales, a 2014 JCB bale loader and the hay shed were destroyed.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fire as a possible arson.

Total loss is estimated to be about $350,000

Hay can and will ignite itself if baled while too wet. With all the moisture we had lately I can’t see it laying on the ground for long enough to dry before being baled.
