Quick Change Scammer Hits Salina Store

A “quick change” scammer ripped off the Salina Walmart store Saturday evening.

According to Police CaptainĀ  Mike Sweeney, a man turned an $18 purchase of soap and lotion into a $700 loss for the store.

The man began his transaction at the checkout lane paying for his purchase with a $100 bill. He proceeded to then confuse the clerk by making a series of requests to exchange several larger bills, $50s and $100s, into smaller bills. He ended up walking out with his purchase, and also $700 in cash.

The suspect is described as black male with scruffy facial hair. He was wearing a gray flat billed hat, gray pants, and a gray shirt. A slender white female and a heavy set black female were with him.

The incident happened at about 5:30pm on Saturday at the Salina Walmart located at 2900 S. 9th.
