During the checkpoint, 77 cars were stopped

Salina Police Lt. Scott Siemsen is using a recent vehicle theft to point out what thieves are looking for – “opportunity.”

Lt. Siemsen tells KSAL News, shoppers need to secure their cars, “Lock up and don’t leave your gift bags in plain site,” he said. “Thieves are shopping for the gifts you’ve left in the car.”

Salina Police are investigating after a pickup truck is stolen.

Officers were called to the 700 block of Merrill on Monday evening after a 2007 Chevrolet truck was stolen from the street.

Owner, Fransisco Guardado told police he had left the keys in the vehicle and left it unlocked. A neighbor told officers they say a white male in his early 20’s wearing a black hat, black hoodie and blue jeans near the truck before it was stolen.

The vehicle is valued at $20,000.

Seems this police Lt should retire. Did he realize the guy left his keys in the truck and the doors unlocked? Anyone that does this will have their auto stolen or whatever they have in the auto stolen. With cops like this in leadership positions no wonder we have ad crime spree.
