Police Suspect Medical Issue Led to Crash

Police release details about Friday’s fatal one car crash.

According to Police Captain Mike Sweeney, 71-year-old Richard Smock of Tescott was driving a 1990 Chevy Silverado pickup northbound on Broadway around 3pm, when for an unknown reason he veered across the south lanes of the Broadway overpass, and hit the guard rail.

The truck then left the roadway and hit a tree.

Medics tried to revive Smock at the scene. He was transported to the Salina Regional Health Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Captain Sweeney tells KSAL News that they are investigating the cause of the crash as a possible medical issue.
