Police Seek Info on Shots Fired

KSAL Staff - June 30, 2014 1:35 pm

An 18-month-old boy Wichita boy died after he was accidentally run over a pickup truck while being dropped off at a home.

Police continue to investigate after someone fired a high-powered rifle in the 500 block of West Beloit last Thursday night.

Captain Mike Sweeney says police confirmed at least 5 rounds were fired – one narrowly missed a woman who was asleep in her bed.

Captain Sweeney tells KSAL News one of the rounds went through a mattress where a 73-year old woman was sleeping. “It traveled all the way through the bed and out the front of the house and ended up on the front porch,” he said.

Police say two other bullets hit some trees, while a 5th bullet hit another residence across the street and lodged in a closet.

No one was injured.

Police are asking for help from the public in helping to solve the case. Anyone with information is urged to call police or Crimestoppers at 825 TIPS.
