Police say Lawrence bank robber left in cab

Lawrence police say a bank robber made his getaway in a waiting taxi.

Sgt. Trent McKinley says in a release that police responded Saturday to a report of a robbery at a credit union. Bank employees said a man entered the bank and demanded cash from one of the tellers. The employee complied, and the suspect left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police say the robber didn’t show a weapon, and no injuries were reported.

Police say surveillance video shows the suspect left the bank parking lot in a taxi that had been waiting. Investigators later located the taxi driver and determined the driver wasn’t involved in the robbery.

Police were still seeking the suspect.
