Police Issue 24 Seat Belt Citations, Plan DUI Lane

Salina Police issued multiple citations last Friday night for seat belt violations.

Lt. Russ Lamer tells KSAL News that officers focused on occupants who were not buckled up in vehicles with a check point Friday.

Police made 28 vehicle stops and issued 24 citations to adults for seat belt violations. The check lane was set up in the area of 9th and Cloud from 9pm until 1am.

Police also issued 9 other citations and made one arrest for a suspended drivers license.

Police are also planning for a DUI check lane on Friday July 4th, following the Skyfire event.

Seven officers and a supervisor will be looking for drivers who are impaired. The location of the check point has not been announced.

The extra time is funded by the IDDP grant (impaired drivers deterrence program).
