A groundbreaking ceremony Monday morning at Stewart Elementary School signaled the beginning of construction at another USD 305 building.
As part of a $110.7 million bond issue that was passed in April of 2014, crews will build four new kindergarten classrooms, plus a multi-purpose storm shelter and a controlled entry at Stewart.
USD 305 Superintendent Bill Hall tells KSAL News that even before all the classrooms are finished around the district, plans are underway to find All-Day K instructors.
“We have already filled a number of positions by virtue of having some internal transfers,” Hall said.
“Now we’re asking teachers is there anyone who wants to transfer to a kindergarten position outside their building but inside the district.”
Hall added that soon they will be looking at external applicants for the postilions as well. He said they are now pointing at early January 2016 to begin training staff for the full day environment inside Salina kindergarten classrooms.
