Manhattan Woman Fired Over Facebook Post

Associated Press - September 26, 2013 10:33 am

A Manhattan woman says she was fired and has received death threats after posting comments on Facebook that criticized the military.

Meagan May posted a comment in September that she did not consider the military heroic and criticizing military personnel for expecting discounts at businesses.

May says that she posted the comments because she believes soldiers receive too much special treatment. She said her employer, , Carmike Cinemas in Manhattan, fired her after she posted the comment.

Carmike also posted on May’s page that her comments did not reflect the attitude of the company. Carmike officials said they fully support and honor military personnel.

May says she isn’t backing down because she thinks she should be able to post whatever she believes on Facebook.

May says she was a manager at the theater and was promoted to that position only a week before her termination.

Aside from being fired from her job, some of the comments made on her page include death threats, what she calls lies about her personal life, and even comments about her daughter.

Now that the comment generated so much reaction, May says Carmike Cinemas fired her. They even posted on her original comment.

Can anyone see where this is all going? Unless our freedom of speech is protected we no longer will enjoy what many of us have fought for.

She can say whatever she wants….and the employer should have every right to not have a p.o.s like her working for them as well.

Freedom of Speech is a precious right protected by the First Amendment.
Freedom from Consequences of Speech is an entirely different thing and NOT protected by the First Amendment.
There are things many of us would like to say but need to be tempered with the potential consequences.
I can LEGALLY bad mouth my employer and encourage customers to shop elsewhere but who in his right mind would not fire me?

haha the freedom of speech than any men and women have fought and died to protect? this woman deserves the problems she has encountered. freedom of speech wouldnt even be a thought if we didnt have people to fight for it.

I find it interesting, because the only reason she is able to have freedom of speech is because we (I am a United States Sailor) choose to kill ourselves in the line of battle. However. She can say whatever she wants about the military, asking for discounts and such “special treatments,” without knowing why we do. There is many times when I’m sure people complain about Mondays, not getting Holidays off, or not getting paid enough. We don’t always get paid, because when the government cuts, we loose our pay check. We rarely get holidays off, and everyday is Monday, because National security doesn’t take weekends off. And we don’t do it to be thanked. In fact, when people thank us, we just feel awkward.
But the support we receive from home is much appreciated. Thank you for allowing us to serve you. Peace!

I wish the media would report the real story here, like how she said that she “laughs in the faces of children who cry in front of photos of their deployed fathers” and how she was telling the widows of soldiers that “I’m going to go enjoy my husband now, unlike you.” It’s also funny that she took down her profile photo that WAS a picture of her with the caption “Wanted: For spitting in the faces of our fine soldiers.” once she went to the media.
She’s been intentionally trying to insult people and get them more and more worked up, more and more angry, and to say worse and worse things to her for attention’s sake. She’s done MUCH more than state an opinion. She has gone out of her way to taunt those who’re suffering loss and mourning dead husbands and fathers, those who’re missing their deployed sons and daughters, and to top it all off, she thinks it’s HILARIOUS.
She needs to be taken to a psych ward.

Also, Carmike Cinemas has NOT posted on her page. They sent out replies to people who complained and those people took SCREEN SHOTS of that reply and posted them on her page… as well as her mugshot for harassment (because she has ALWAYS had an attention neediness issue), her inflammatory PROFILE PHOTO that says “Wanted: For spitting in the faces of our fine soldiers.” (which she deleted along with about 3 other such photos, AFTER she went to the media, realizing that she would look like a complete idiot if she left them on her page) and a slew of other materials.

Should I send your website all the death threats that she spent a year sending me? Telling me that she “hoped a die a death so horrible that it makes Saw look like it was produced by Disney.” Or the ones about how “things won’t end well for [me] and that pretty face of [mine]”????

Your site is feeding the ego of a mentally unstable girl, who has continued to upload photos of her innocent daughter, despite death threats to the baby and horrible insults directed at the child. She has said NOTHING to defend the child. She has not made the baby’s photos private. She has not disabled the comments on her Facebook because she LOVES this negative attention. Stop feeding the monster and get her the mental help that she needs.

I contacted Meagan about her post since there were comments on her kids pictures and negative comments. I’m wondering what her motive is about not deleting the comments or making the child’s pictures private. As of today I notice she has added more pictures and does not make them private. Something doesn’t seem right there, at all! But here is what she said:

I know your emails must be over
flowing. I’m not sure what the reason for
the post you made but it is all over. You
might want to say sorry and hope they
stop blowing up your page.

I will not apologize to such a crowd of
people. They don’t deserve my
explanation. I am comfortable with
myself and don’t need the approval of
others. thank you for your concern

Definately something wrong with this lady. I myself find the current way troops are being treated and being thanked for their service a little disturbing as I served in vietnam and when I returned we veterans were treated like crap. We were pull down no body told us thanks nobody even tried to help us in anyway. We were left hanging out there even with medical treatment. Those scars never heal.
