Man Pulled from Truck Fire

A man escapes a fiery wreck with help from a neighbor.

Sheriff  Glen Kochanowski tells KSAL News that Hershel Sanders stepped outside to walk his dog Wednesday night around 8:40pm – and immediately noticed a truck in his yard that was on fire.

Deputies say just moments before, 55-year-old Ricky Leister’s pickup had smashed into a hedgerow of trees in the 4400 block of E. North Street and came to rest in Sanders’ yard.

Sanders helped Leister out of the shattered back window of the 2002 Chevy Silverado before the entire cab was engulfed in flames.

Deputies say Leister, who lives in the 6200 block of E. North Street, refused transport to the hospital by EMS but was treated later at Salina Regional Health Center for a deep cut on his left elbow and cut on his nose.
