Man Arrested After High Speed Chase

A Salina man was arrested late Thursday night after leading police on a high speed chase.

Police say that the chase started at 11:44 Thursday night, when an officer pulled over a 1995 green Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by 27-year-old Kenneth Claytor that had a broken tail light. Claytor initially stopped, in the area of North 9th Street and Otis. When the officer got out to approach the car, Claytor sped off and a chase began.

The chase, which reached speeds of 65-miles-per-hour, ended when Claytor  lost control as he was turning west on Pacific Street from 10th Street. The car went into a field and stopped.  Claytor then got out and ran. He was caught in the in 800 block of North 11th Street following a short foot chase.

Claytor was booked into jail on multiple charges that could include felony fleeing and eluding and reckless driving.

Police say that Claytor fled because he was driving with a suspended license and had no proof of insurance.
