SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – The Board of Regents of Washington State University has chosen Dr. Kirk Schulz of Kansas State University as the 11th president of the Pullman-based school.

The regents made the decision Friday morning at a meeting in the Tri-Cities.

The regents were presented with three finalists for the job of replacing President Elson Floyd, who died last June. They unanimously voted to extend an offer of employment to Schulz, who has been president of Kansas State since 2009.

Schulz is expected to visit the state next week.

The names of the other two finalists were not revealed.

Provost Daniel Bernardo has been acting president.
