U.S. District Judge Monti Belot told attorneys Monday he wants to move along as rapidly as possible the case of Terry Loewen, an avionics technician jailed on terrorism-related charges.
A federal judge has put off this month’s scheduled trial in the case of an avionics technician accused in a suicide bomb plot at a Wichita airport.
The court’s docket included a notation Wednesday indicating the Feb. 18 trial for Terry Loewen has been canceled with no new trial date set. Such delays are routine given the amount of evidence and the difficulties in a case involving national security information. A status hearing has been scheduled for March 24.
Loewen was arrested Dec. 13 after he allegedly tried to drive a van filled with inert explosives onto the airport tarmac.
He pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, attempting to use an explosive device to damage property and attempting to support al-Qaida.
