Inmate Caught after Run at SRHC

A prison inmate from Ellsworth who was being treated at the hospital in Salina tried to escape after shoving a female nurse down.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News the incident lasted about 2 minutes on Thursday afternoon on the third floor at Salina Regional Health Center.

Police say 26-year-old Paul Stotts pushed a nurse down and ran down the hall with an Ellsworth Correctional Facility guard in close pursuit.

Two male nurses and the guard tackled Stotts, he then reportedly tried to grab the guard’s gun away.

Two Salina Police officers then arrived and helped handcuff Stotts.

The inmate who is serving time for attempted murder, could now face additional charges of battery for hurting a female nurse.

Police say she suffered minor injuries and bruising.
