A Salina man was treated for a gunshot wound at the hospital after exchanging gunfire with another man on the street Wednesday night.

According to Captain Mike Sweeney 24-year-old Rachad Austin was transported to Salina Regional Health Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Police say he was standing on the front porch at 3209 Royal Wednesday night at 10:15pm when an unidentified suspect walked up and began shooting at him.

Austin was also armed and began firing back with a handgun.

He was hit while the two exchanged multiple shots.

Police were still processing the scene Thursday morning and did not release any description of the suspected shooter.

Captain Sweeney tells KSAL News that the home located in the Schilling area was occupied, but no one else was injured.

No arrests have been made.
