Friends of the River Hires Executive Director

KSAL Staff - July 7, 2015 9:57 am

A new person will oversee the operations of Salina’s Friends of the River organization.

According to the organization, the Friends of the River Foundation have hired Jane Anderson as executive director to assist with management, financial development and operational oversight. With a goal to restore the flow to the Old Smoky Hill River Jane will work with the city and other agencies to promote river restoration.

“We are excited to have Jane represent the Friends of the River organization. She brings a lot of great experience and passion for Salina that will help the project continue to move forward in a positive direction,” said Jessica Martin, Board President.

Jane will also be working with the Board of the Friends of the River to develop volunteer teams, and funding for operations through donors and grants.

Jane is a graduate from Marymount College in Theater and English. She has a total of 15 years of experience in Advancement work at Kansas Wesleyan University and Bethany College. The latest being Bethany College as Director of Annual Giving.

It never amazes me that when taxpayers speak certain people think they can get anything they want. Seems Jane is not smart enough to back off of something that the people of Salina do not want. Has she ever seen a river? Evidently not as what her and her cronies many of which own rental real estate properties along the channel that runs through Salina. Yes it is a channel not a river. Evidently her husband Brad cannot or will not advise her against such a position which will only bring up negative outcomes for them. She does have some support in city government as we are seeing the city refusing to replace the bridge on Greeley. That bridge should have been replaced long before the Iron Street project which is at a stand still like Magnolia was a few years back. Re-doing the channel is a dead topic using taxpayer monies as we in Salina are already over taxed thanks to the School system and our governor.
If Jane wants to open her pocket book and have her friends of the channel do the same that would be great. Maybe while she is at it she can get her husband to open a beer garden at the River Festival next year with proceeds going to her pet project.

You are so right. What I object to is her husband lets people drink alcohol at the river festival which is supposed to be a family event. This year there were a few instances because of this. Now she wants to turn a channel into something the people of Salina including myself voted down. Probably the best thing both of them could do is move on to another community far away from Salina.
