Police announce more charges against a man who is already in jail for his role in stealing over 100 guns from Cleve’s Marine & Sporting Goods Store.
According to Captain Mike Sweeney, 32-year-old Matthew Hewitt is now facing 16 counts of criminal use of a financial card, forgery and theft charges after an investigation revealed Hewitt was also involved in a residential burglary back on April 1, 2014.
Police allege he forced a backdoor open on a home in the 300 block of North Kansas, stole two credit cards and proceeded to make 16 different purchases at several area stores totalling $939.30.
Hewitt was initially arrested in early May, after police found 68 stolen guns in his apartment.
Authorities have recovered all but about 40 of the 118 guns that were removed from Cleve’s Marine & Sporting Goods Store.
Gregory Walburn, 27 of Salina is also facing charges in connection to the stolen firearms from Cleve’s.
