Kids who participate in Salina’s annual fishing derby this year will have a bit of a different experience this year. They will have the opportunity to fish with a cop.

According to the City of Salina, the Salina Police Department is partnering with the Salina Parks and Recreation in hosting the annual Lakewood Fishing Derby.

Kids will be able to fish with Salina Police Officers, Saline County Sheriff Deputies, Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers and Officers with the Kansas Wildlife and Parks.

Kids will compete in several competitions, including a casting contest and the biggest fish in each age category (8 and under, 9-11 and 12-14 years of age) where prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Drawings will be held for other prizes inclduing Kayaks, a Striper Fishing Trip for 4 to Lake Texoma, a Wiper Fishing Trip for 2 to Milford Lake, a Coleman Gas Grill, a 8-person Tent, Igloo Coolers, fishing poles, tackle boxes, lures, chairs and a digital camera to name a few. Directly following the weigh-in, we will finish the event with Chief Nelson, D.C. Morton, Sheriff Kochanowski and Capt. Atkinson with the Kansas Highway Patrol roasting hot dogs for the kids, along with chips and Pepsi Products.

Registration for this free event is required through the Salina Parks and Recreation Office, or online at www.salina-ks.gov. Click on Departments, click on Parks and Recreation, click on Registration, “New User”, click on “Create an Account”, Add information. Then click on the Summer Activities Guide and select Fishing Derby and the appropriate age

Is Lamer going to dress as a fish and swim around during this event? LOL

Makin’ a joke, Fred? This is a cool event for kids, but yet you have to bring your hatred for law enforcement into things as usual. Can someone at KSAL please tell me why you allow this man to continue to comment on your stories when all he does is insult and degrade everyone and everything related to our law enforcement officers or does KSAL support this type of thing? Absolutely disgraceful.
