Two people are dead after their single-engine airplane crashed into a central Kansas field not long after takeoff.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the victims as a 49-year-old Great Bend man and a 24-year-old man from Utah. Both died a the scene.

The patrol says the Pottier P70 crashed at 11:33 a.m. Sunday in Barton County after taking off from the Great Bend airport.

The cause of the crash hasn’t been determined and the names of the two victims have been withheld pending notification of their families.
