Ellsworth Woman Facing Federal Drug Crimes

An Ellsworth woman is facing federal drug charges.

According to U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom’s Office, 35-year-old Melissa Jo Brachter is charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and one count of distributing marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school.

The crimes are alleged to have occurred on April 15th in Ellsworth within 1,000 feet of Ellsworth Junior and Senior High School.

If convicted, Brachter faces a penalty of not less than a year and not more than 20 years and a fine up to $500,000 on the first count and maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine up to $1 million on the second count.
