Elderly Woman Scammed

An elderly Salina woman has been bilked out of $3,600.

Salina Police say that a 71-year-old woman received a phone call from someone claiming to be her son in Las Vegas. She was told that he had been in a crash involving a rental car. A short time later, the woman received a call from someone claiming to be her son’s attorney. She was told that money was needed to pay for damage to the rental car, otherwise her son would be arrested.

The woman ended up sending $3,600 worth of iTunes gift cards to a New York City address.

The woman realized that she had been scammed when her son, who does live in Las Vegas, called to check up on her.

Total loss is $3,600.
