A Lyons couple are killed when their car makes a u-turn in front of a semi.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 80-year-old Gordon L. Zahradnik
was merging onto K156 Highway eastbound from K4 Highway. He was attempting to make a u-turn in the path of a semi when the two vehicles collided. The car was knocked into the north ditch, went down an embankment, and came to rest in a ditch.

Zahradnik and a passenger, 78-year-old Vivian Rae Zahradnik were both killed in the crash. Troopers say they that neither was buckled up.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

The crash happened Tuesday afternonn a mile and a half east of Claflin on K156 Highway.
