Crash, Fire and Rescue

A medical condition may have led to a single vehicle crash and rescue on Thursday morning.

Sheriff Glen Kochanowski tells KSAL News that 35-year-old Randall Witte from Lincoln, KS was injured after the pickup he was driving hit a guard rail and rolled into a ditch near the Muir Road overpass on I-70.

Deputies say he was driving eastbound and was attempting to pass a semi when he lost consciousness.

Several drivers who witnessed the crash stopped and helped pull Witte from the 2001 Dodge Ram truck as the front end began to burn in the grass fire ignited by the crash.

Fire crews suppressed the fire shortly after it began around 10:26am.

Witte was transported to the hospital in Salina and released after being treated for cuts and scrapes.
