Airplane Crash Lands At Ellinwood Airport

An airplane crash lands while trying to takeoff from a small airport in Barton County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a small Luscombe 8a fixed-wing aircraft was attempting to takeoff from the Ellinwood Airport. The aircraft didn’t have enough altitude. The pilot tried to abort, lost directional control, and flipped off the runway into a milo field. 

The pilot, 58-year-old Michael Yagel from Raymond, and a passenger, 66-year-old Leonard Maberry fom Ellinwood, had possible injuries. Both refused transport by EMS to the hospital.

The crash happened just before 2:00 Wednesday afternoon at the Ellinwood Airport.

The Ellinwood airport is about 10 miles east of Great Bend.
