KSAL Staff - November 3, 2015 8:11 pm

A child was hit and killed by a car after school in Abilene Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 6-year-old Tayla Womochil was hit by an SUV.

A 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 59-year-old Beverly Barnett of Enterprise was headed west on 6th street. The SUV stopped at a stop sign, turned left, and struck the child.

The accident happened at 3:23 Tuesday afternoon, at 6th and Buckeye near Garfield Elementary School.

Tayla’s father issued a message via social media:

“It’s comes with a heavy heart that I have to let my baby girl go (Tayla) I am so sad right now. she brought a smile to everyone whose life she touched. She was an amazing girl she gave so much love to everyone she came in contact with. She didn’t know the meaning of quit she came into this world and made it a better place. Every minute you have with your kids is precious we sometimes take that for granted. This could happen to anyone, so please give your loved one a hug tonight tell them you love them and don’t forget life is short make the most of every second with your loved ones. Tayla you will be missed and will always be loved. LOVE YOU BABY GIRL YOU WILL BE MISSED”

Very sad story for all involved. But why would you let a 6 year old go to and from school by themselves to begin with?

Doug , before you assume learn the facts.. she did not walk to/or from school alone her brother and sister were with her, now they have to live with witnessing their sisters death for the rest of their lifes.. this little girl was my neicies daughter…

Juanita it does not surprise me one bit that you would let a 6 year old cross a busy street to get to and from school. Its sad when an innocent child gets killed because of irresponsible people like you and other parents. Calling my statement idiotic shows that you are a disgrace to society and its to bad you could not have taken the place of that poor little girl. Nobody would miss you.

Doug that is so self centered saying that she won’t be missed well then screw u. She was waking home with her brother and sister and now they can’t even begin how to deal with it. So if u have something rude to say keep it to it self.

Michael Trent Sr Hkoc and others if as parents you are going to intrust the life of a wonderful child in the hands of other children then you need to have your heads examined. If any of you are aware those that were in charge for her safety had left her behind and she was trying to hurry to catch up to them when this unfortunate accident took place. Had those children had waited for her this accident would not have occurred. Kids are kids and they do things without thinking which is expected so having them to be responsible for a younger person is not in the best interest of all. This is 2015 not 1950 when traffic was minimal. Parents are responsible for their children and their well being which today seems not to be the norm.
