USD 305 Plans Community Meetings to Discuss Schools’ Facility Proposals

The Salina USD 305 school district will begin a series of community meetings next week.

According to the district, a community meeting will be held at South High School on Thursday, August 22, at 6:00 p.m., to propose facility solutions and receive input. South High School is located at 730 E. Magnolia, Salina.

“Community members’ input to develop this plan is critical,” explained William D. Hall, superintendent. “We need feedback from Salina residents.” The facility proposals were developed by a group of students, staff, business professionals and community members. At the August 22 meeting, community members will be able to:

Provide additional input to help craft the plan
Tour South High School
Provide feedback about the proposed facility solutions and potential cost to taxpayers

Proposed solutions at the elementary level include creating or reorganizing spaces to accommodate all day Kindergarten and Pre-School students. The plan also includes safety and security improvements, such as moving administrative offices to the front entrance for the ability to better monitor visitors entering and exiting schools and tornado shelters. At the middle school level, safety and security proposed upgrades include moving the administrative offices to the front entrance and tornado shelters.

USD 305’s two high schools could both receive significant renovations and additions. Updated classrooms, improved athletic spaces and expanded career and technical programs would enhance the learning environment for students at both high schools.

The end result will be a long-range strategic facilities plan designed to educate Salina’s next generation of leaders and position the community for continued success.
