Search For 14 Year Old Boy Resumes

Wichita police have resumed the search for a 14-year-old boy apparently swept away by floodwaters Friday.

Police told The Wichita Eagle  Saturday that search crews had found no sign of the boy, who was not identified.

The boy went under the water about noon Friday while swimming with at least two other boys in a west Wichita waterway called The Big Ditch. Witnesses say the boy was pulled under by the weight of his clothes. Crews also searched the Big Ditch and its banks for eight hours Friday.

The Wichita area has been hit with heavy rain this week, sparking flash flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for nearby Reno County until Sunday afternoon because of the continued  flood risk along rural roads and and streams.
