UPDATE: Man Pours Gas on Shirt, School Takes Precautions

A Salina Elementary School briefly goes into heightened security Monday morning.

According to USD 305, police officials directed that Schilling elementary go into heightened security. This is when staff lock the school doors and monitor anyone entering the building.

SPD’s Lt. Scott Siemsen tells KSAL News that a Salina man in his 50’s – had poured gasoline on his shirt and was despondent when he left his home in the area.

Police apprehended the man around 9am.

During this brief time, normal activities continued inside the building and parents were notified via the School Messenger system.

By 9:30 a.m. police advised that heightened security was no longer needed and Schilling elementary returned to regular status.
