Salina Man Arrested in Meth Investigation

A Kansas parole check leads to an arrest by the I 135 / I 70 Drug Task Force.

According to Task Force Commander, Lt. Jim Norton, 45-year-old Stephen M. Smith, Jr., of Salina was arrested Friday afternoon on multiple charges that include possession of methanphetimine with intent to sell.

Lt. Norton tells KSAL News that a state parole officer was checking on Smith and contacted police after seeing drugs and cash left out in the open during his visit. Police issued a search warrant and seized 2-ounces of meth, packaged for sale and $14,444 in suspected drug proceeds.

Lt. Norton says Smith is also facing an additional charge of criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, after police found a .40 caliber handgun in the motor home that was parked on a driveway in the 1400 block of E. Cloud.
