Dr. Donald Lee Yowell, 95, Delphos, died Saturday, April 4, 2026. He was born January 1, 1931, to Wayne and Doris (Shroyer) Yowell in the small farmhouse he grew up in.
He accelerated through his country school, attended Kansas Wesleyan, and graduated from UMKC Dental School in 1955. He enlisted in the United States Navy as a lieutenant and was stationed in Japan and was honorably discharged. In 1957, Doc began practicing dentistry in Delphos. He and JoAnn Klein were married in 1953, and they had four children, Ann, Donalea, Janelle, and Glenn.
Doc was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Salina Bowmen’s Association, NRA, KTA, the American Legion and he taught local hunters safety classes for many years. He was also a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Doc will fondly be remembered by many for giving toothbrushes away at Halloween. He retired from his practice in 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janelle; wife of 34 years, JoAnn; second wife of 34 years, Billye; granddaughter, Dawn Smith; and stepson, Chuck Yowell.
Survivors are this three children, Ann Ballinger, Doni Michels and husband, Fred, and Glenn Yowell and wife, Nancy; Billye’s children, Debbie Summers and husband, Don, Rhonda Newell and husband, Brian, and Bradley Yowell; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family will have a private graveside service on the morning of Friday, June 12 at the Delphos Cemetery. They would love to visit with friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. at Doc’s house.
