Brandon Michael Sears

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Brandon Michael Sears. Brandon was born to Mary Huiett. He lived in Virginia and later in Vermont where he attended trade school, eventually moving to Kansas as a young adult  to be near his grandparents. Brandon worked in building and construction.

Brandon was a unique spirit whose presence was a true gift to all who truly knew him. He worked hard and his care and kindness for others was without limits. Brandon was that guy who without expectation of anything in return, would change tires for strangers in the snow, repair homes and mow yards for sick and elderly neighbors and check on them often to ensure they were cared for and had what they needed, and he would go to the ends of the earth for friends when they needed someone. A collector of all things old and useful, Brandon could make something from nothing. He was always in a project, often building something for someone needing a solution in the form of wood and metal. Known as the “Redneck MacGyver”, Brandon creatively brought life and purpose to things through his eclectic visions and skills.

Brandon was a devoted single father. As a single parent, Brandon went above and beyond in his role as both father and mother. He taught his daughter many skills, including cooking and sewing, and had many female family and friends in her life. He also taught her woodworking, mechanics and many construction skills as he rebuilt his home and repaired cars. Brandon enjoyed making items for his daughter. He built a loft bed, and a playhouse with windows that could be used as a shed when she outgrew it. He took her on field trips, drove her 60 miles to visit a friend of hers that had moved to another city, bought her a metal detector and took her metal detecting, played board games and cards with her, sometimes worked on crafts with her, and was active with school functions and meetings. Brandon taught his daughter responsibility, pride in your work and working for what you have, accountability and caring for others. Brandon sewed his own curtains to satisfy the pattern he desired and to be of his high-quality standards and made a wooden curtain rod with a shelf.

Safety was important to Brandon. He designed safety precautions to provide a safe home for his daughter. He had a special key required to operate the garbage disposal and taught her fire and emergency safety. He taught her how to remove the screens and escape in case of emergency. He taught her how to operate a fire extinguisher and provided her with hands-on training.
Brandon Michael Sears was truly One of a Kind. Those close to him will forever feel the void of his warm heart, helping nature and infectious laugh since his passing.
