Abandoned Pets Found in Salina Motel Room

KSAL StaffJuly 24, 2015

Animal control officers were sent to a Salina motel room after an odor complaint was made on Thursday.

Salina’s Animal Service Supervisor Vanessa Cowie, tells KSAL News that, at least 10 animals were found in a room at the Traveler’s Lodge at 245 S. Broadway, all suffering from dehydration and malnutrition.

Cowie added some of the animals which included snakes, rats and cats were eating flesh from bodies of pets that had died in the room.

Police are looking for a known suspect who was renting the room – and probably left the animals behind about two weeks ago.

The surviving pets were removed from the room and are being housed at the Salina Animal Shelter.
