One person is dead, and two others escaped without injuries after a grain bin collapsed in southeast Newton on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office, the three men were emptying soybeans from a large grain bin when the contents suddenly shifted, trapping one of the men.

The trapped man, identified as 37-year-old Mark Klaassen was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two others escaped without injury.

His death was ruled an accident.
