Kids Can Fish With A Cop

Kids can fish with a cop this coming Saturday. Kids who participate in Salina’s annual fishing derby this year will have a bit of a different experience. They will have the opportunity to fish with a cop.

According to the City of Salina, the Salina Police Department is partnering with the Salina Parks and Recreation in hosting the annual Lakewood Fishing Derby.

Kids will be able to fish with Salina Police Officers, Saline County Sheriff Deputies, Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers and Officers with the Kansas Wildlife and Parks.

Kids will compete in several competitions, including a casting contest and the biggest fish in each age category (8 and under, 9-11 and 12-14 years of age) where prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Drawings will be held for other prizes including Kayaks, a Striper Fishing Trip for 4 to Lake Texoma, a Wiper Fishing Trip for 2 to Milford Lake, a Coleman Gas Grill, a 8-person Tent, Igloo Coolers, fishing poles, tackle boxes, lures, chairs and a digital camera to name a few. Directly following the weigh-in, wthey will finish the event with Chief Nelson, D.C. Morton, Sheriff Kochanowski and Capt. Atkinson with the Kansas Highway Patrol roasting hot dogs for the kids, along with chips and Pepsi Products.
