Kansas is included in a proposed coast-to-coast train service.
Delaware-based AmeriStarRail sent a letter to the White House and Amtrak last month detailing the Transcontinental Chief. The line would run from New York to Los Angeles with stops in Kansas. The Delaware-based company proposed a private-public partnership with Amtrak, the nation’s railroad provider, for a route called The Transcontinental Chief, which would take travelers across the country.
The Transcontinental Chief would make multiple during its cross country trek. These stops would include among others Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka, Newton, Hutchinson, Dodge City, and Garden City.
Officials hope to begin offering the service by May 2026.
