KSAL Staff - March 14, 2016 11:04 am

A couple of fires over the weekend in rural Saline County damaged property and equipment.

According to the Saline County Sheriff’s office, a fire Friday afternoon at 5099 W Slope damaged a shed. A push mower and snow blower inside the shed were also damaged.  David Schoenig had burned weeds around a pond on the property, when the fire rekindled and spread to a shed. Total damage is estimated at $1900.

Sunday night at around 9:30 there was another fire. Mathew Hubele of 1012 E Hedburg was burning a brush pile. As he was pushing some debris into the fire with a skid loader, the vehicle slid into the brush pile. Hubele was able to escape, and was not hurt. The skid loader was destroyed. Total loss is estimated at $45,000.
