A Kansas farmer has filed a federal lawsuit seeking to stop a new wind farm from operating out of concern for the endangered whooping crane.
Two juveniles have appeared in court to face battery charges in connection to a school bus incident involving members of the Great Bend High School boys swim team.
Ellsworth County Attorney Joe Shepack said in a news release that the two teens opted to be arraigned Wednesday immediately after turning themselves in.
The Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Office investigated allegations that several students were victimized on the team bus as it passed through the county Feb. 6. Shepack said that what started out as horseplay turned into “several incidents” of battery on one 14-year-old team member.
Shepack said that a 17-year-old entered a plea of not guilty and was released on his own recognizance. A 16-year-old pleaded no contest, and his sentencing has been set for June 1.
