SUV Flips Into Field

On person was injured Friday afternoon when the driver of an SUV swerved to miss an oncoming vehicle and flipped into a field. The crash happened at around 1:45, just west of Salina near the intersection of Crawford Street and Fairchilds Road.

Saline County Sheriff Deputy Ricky Heinrich told KSAL News at the scene that an older model Chevrolet Suburban was headed east on Crawford Street. At the same time, a small passenger car was headed west.

For an unknown reason the car was driving left of center, headed west in the eastbound lanes. The SUV swerved to avoid a collision.

Heinrich says that a collision was successfully avoided. But the driver of the SUV lost control as he swerved, and went off the road and down a steep embankment. The SUV rolled one complete time, and came to rest on its wheels.

Heinrich says that the driver suffered only minor injuries. No one in the car was hurt. Names were not immediately available at the scene.

Heinrich adds that the accident is under investigation, and that it’s likely there will be citations.
