South Salina Micro Brewery Plans Grand Opening

A south Salina micro brewery is planing a grand opening.

Big John’s Brewing Company opened in November at 2445 S. 9th Street. According to the company, the 5,000 square foot brewery produces hand-crafted micro brews. Customers can enjoy the
locally made beer in the brewery’s tasting room or pick-up a 64-ounce growler or keg to consume off site.

Big John’s Brewing Company does not serve food, but customers are
welcome to bring their own food, have it delivered or have it catered in.

Big John’s brews five styles of beer on site: Blonde Ale, Rye Ale, Indian Pale Ale (IPA), Porter and Oatmeal Stout. They offer seasonal beer throughout the year as well as pilot or test
batches. Customers can sample the pilot batch brewing on site.

Hand crafted micro breweries are a growing industry in the U.S. According to the Brewers Association, the number of craft brewers has gone from eight in 1980 to 537 in 1994 to over
2,000 in 2012. Craft brewers sold an estimated 13,235,917 barrels of beer in 2012, up from 11,467,337 in 2011.

Big John’s Brewing Company is owned by John Johnson. Kord Kelly is the Master Brewer.

The grand opening is scheduled for Saturday, January 18th, from noon – 10:00 p.m. You will be able to sign up for their Mug Club and Growler of the Month Club. There will also be brewery tours.
