Shooting, Chase Begins In Norton

A suspects was arrested late Friday night following a shooting, and chase, that began in Norton and ended near Oberlin.

Wichita media reports that at around 9 in the evening an active shooter situation broke out.

KWCH TV reports that police were called to the 300 block of Ward Avenue for a report of a man with a gun. Once on scene officers found a 48-year-old Norton man had been shot and killed in an area known as Pool Park. As officers searched for the suspect, shots were reportedly fired at officers.

Officers from Norton, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Kansas Highway Patrol and surrounding counties then pursued the alleged shooter in a high-speed chase along Highway 36.

The suspect surrendered to officers five miles north of Oberlin.

No names were immediately released.
