Salina Police are warning the public about a scam caller claiming to work for Westar Energy.

Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that on Tuesday afternoon, a man calling himself ‘John Cooper’ with Westar Energy contacted Roselawn Memorial Park,1920 E. Crawford for a so-called payment.

The scammer told a staff member he needed them to send him $988 for an overdue payment, or have the power turned off.

The staff member became suspicious and the scammer hung up.
