Review of Force Underway

KSAL Staff - June 24, 2014 11:44 am

Salina Police are reviewing an arrest made last Friday, after an officer used a taser on a man who would not exit his vehicle.

The incident was captured on video by a cell phone that was inside the vehicle.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney tells KSAL News that the department is looking into an arrest that was made during a seat belt check lane Friday night at the corner of 9th and Kirwin just before 11pm.

Sweeney says they are looking to see if there was any policy or procedure violations during the arrest, and the department will move forward with correction and or discipline if any wrong doing is found.

Sweeney added it’s department policy to review all cases when an officer uses force.

After the initial stop – the officer learned that the driver, 30-year-old Zachary Noel of Wichita was driving on a suspended licence. Police say he was tased after he would not follow commands to turn off his vehicle and exit from behind the wheel.

Noel is now facing charges that include driving while suspended and interference with law enforcement.

are you kidding me??this officer violated his 4th amendment right..he should be fired from duty an never allowed to be a law officer again..i live in kcmo and this is blowing up on local media..when the capt. of the largest police force in this state says it is a clear cut case of department police in his department…you know that in your little town it is against the rules..that is unless of course your town is run by a gestopo type mentallity..thank god for big city’s and real officers who do their job and respect it’s citizens..welcome to social media..

Why is Sweeney covering for this cop? There was no reason on earth to taser anyone. Fire the cop and Sweeney to for protecting the cop. They always cover up the cops name involved in incidents. Maybe the city commissioners need to look into the policies of the police department.

The officer involved in this incident is not a personal friend of mine, but I do know him. He is a kind person, and it is too bad the punk did not start recording this incident when he was being a mouthy punk, because you can bet the bank this kid knew he was suspended on his DL, and this officer is not quick to anger, knowing the personality of the officer involved, I know there was a lot more going on than what this kid recorded. One thing for sure, if he had his seat belt on, he wouldn’t have been stopped, if he had not been stopped, no one would have known his DL had been suspended.
